Jo-Jo Reyes Finally Ends Winless Streak
Blue Jays left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes ended his lengthy winless streak as his team thumped the Indians 11-1 on Monday afternoon.
Reyes won for the first time in 29 starts by throwing his first career complete game.
"It was just an awesome game," he said with a smile. "I guess this was the way to do it if I had to choose."
Reyes (1-4) allowed one run and eight hits, earning a win for the first time in almost three years.
His previous victory came with Atlanta against the Dodgers on June 13, 2008. The left-hander went 0-13 with a 6.59 ERA in his 28 starts between wins.
Hamels Earns First Victory In New York
Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels accomplished something on Saturday that he had never before in his career -- he won a game in New York.
Hamels, one of the best left-handers in the game, had never beaten the rival Mets on the road before.
"You've got to have it sometime," Hamels said after the 5-2 victory.
"He's going to win some more," manager Charlie Manuel promised. "He's going to win a few more. You and I are going to get to watch him."
Hamels allowed seven hits, two runs and struck out 10 in seven innings. He retired the final 11 batters he faced to improve to 7-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 10 starts since April 5.
Swarzak Nearly Has No-Hitter For Twins
The Twins beat the Angels 1-0 in 10 innings on Saturday night thanks in part to a tremendous performance from pitcher Anthony Swarzak.
Swarzak didn't know he'd be starting for Minnesota until the night before when the team announced that Francisco Liriano couldn't pitch because of a sore shoulder.
He held the Angels hitless one out into the eighth inning. He gave up a one-out double in the eighth to Peter Bourjos, the only hit of the game for the Angels.
"I grabbed the ball, threw the ball down and hoped for the best. Maybe I should do that every time," Swarzak said.
Brewers Get Walk-Off Win On Suicide Squeeze
The Brewers beat the Giants in spectacular fashion on Saturday afternoon thanks to a walk-off win on a suicide squeeze.
Set up by back-to-back base hits from Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder, catcher Jonathan Lucroy's bunt plated Braun and finished off Giants reliever Guillermo Mota in a 3-2 Brewers victory.
The victory snapped the Brewers' five-game losing streak to the Giants and was in front off a sold-out crowd at Miller Park.

Infielder Wilson Valdez wound up as the winning pitcher early Thursday when the Phillies needed 19 innings to outlast the Reds 5-4, according to an Associated Press report.
A dwindling crowd at Citizens Bank Park saw Raul Ibanez hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to decide the longest major league game of the season. It ended at 1:19 a.m. after 6 hours, 11 minutes.
Valdez threw a hitless 19th inning in his first major league pitching appearance.
Minor League Game Goes 23 Innings

Clearwater is a Phillies affiliate, while Jupiter is a Marlins farm team.
Attendance was 330 for a game that began at 6:30 p.m. and ended after midnight.
Pujols Ends Longest HR Drought Of Career
Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols hit a home run on Monday night, his first in 106 at-bats, the longest drought of his career.
Pujols came into the game without a homer in 103 at-bats. He flied out to the warning track in center field in his first at-bat, then flied out to right-center in his second at-bat.
"One run," manager Tony La Russa said of the home run.
"You know what had more value? It's the worst ball he hit. You watch, he's making contact like that. He might not have the first 10 days of the season. After that he's made contact. He just keeps hitting it hard. They're pitching him like he's hitting .350, so every at-bat's a tough one for him."
Pujols is hitting .268/.340/.421 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs this season.
Utley Goes 0-For-5, But Phillies Win In His Debut
Chase Utley went 0-for-5 in his first game of the season on Monday night as the Phillies beat the Reds 10-3.
He missed the first 46 games of the season with a right knee injury. Utley was Philadelphia's only starter without a hit.
"I don't know if it was his presence or not, but somebody did something right so we'll give him credit," manager Charlie Manuel said.
The Phillies scored nine runs in the third inning after scoring a combined nine in their previous six games.
"Him being around gets guys excited and gives us a new energy level," pitcher Cole Hamels said of Utley. "It's great to see him."
